If they are killed, but manage to reduce your health to 25, then they are happy. Their only purpose is to kill or injure you. It’s also worth noting that Serious Sam’s enemies have no notion of self-preservation. This game involves throwing hundreds of enemies at you at once, while you face them in huge open arenas or claustrophobic caves. Forget everything you’ve learned about taking cover and going out for a few shots. When it comes to gameplay, however, Serious Sam really shines. However, the plot is nothing more than a threadbare pantomime to break up the blazingly fast action. There’s a vague idea that you have to pick up crystals to activate something that unlocks something else that in turn saves the world, and there are even a few cutscenes. The story in Serious Sam is not his strong point. All the fast, hard and bloody action you’ve come to know and love is back!, in glorious high definition. The original Serious Sams were great, and this is just Croteam’s way of demonstrating the Serious 3 Engine before releasing Serious Sam 3.
No new weapons, no new enemies, and no new maps. Basically, it’s just a remake of Serious Sam: The First Encounter released in 2001. However, the folks at Croteam realized that there were times when we wanted to be thrown at enemies while we were wielding a big gun, so they came up with Serious Sam HD. The shooter genre moved away from the quick fragging seen in games like Quake and into more realistic territory. Serious Sam HD is the kind of game that some people start to miss after a long hiatus.
